Change the BenQ MP620 projector lamp in 3 easy steps

Your projector automatically tracks the number of hours the BenQ MP620 projector lamp is being used via the built-in timer. You can extend the number of hours by 20% by using the Economic Mode. Access this mode on the Information Menu.

Step 1: Know when to replace

When it’s time to replace the BenQ CS.5JJ1K.001 projector lamp you’ll see a series warnings appear on screen.BenQ_MP620_projector_CS.5JJ1K.001_projector_lamp_Warning_First
First message: Total (equivalent) lamp hour has reached 3000 hours. Install a new lamp for optimal performance.
Second message: Total (equivalent) lamp hour has reached 3950 hour. A new lamp should be fitted to avoid the inconvenience when the projector runs out of lamp time.
Third message: Total (equivalent) lamp hour has reached 4000 hours. This message will flash in the center of the screen for about 30 seconds together with the Lamp indicator lighting up red for 40 seconds
Final message: If this warning message displays, the projector will shut down in 40 seconds. The lamp MUST be replaced before the projector will operate normally.
Replace the BenQ CS.5JJ1K.001 projector lamp immediately.

Step 2: Buying the correct projector lamp

It can be confusing finding the correct BenQ CS.5JJ1K.001 projector lamp for your BenQ MP620 projector. There are hundreds of website selling projector lamps but most of there lamps are knock-off generic lamps that you should avoid at all costs.
Generic “compatible” lamps may appear to be a bargain–however generic knock-off lamps are actually not that great a bargain. These are NOT authentic lamps and should be avoided for the following reasons:

Step 3: Replacing the BenQ MP620 projector lamp

Follow these safety instructions before changing the lamp:

  • Reduce the risk of electrical shock by disconnecting the power cord on the BenQ MP620 projector.
  • Reduce the risk of severe burns by allowing the projector to cool for at least 45 minutes. The projector should be cool to the touch.


  • The projector lamp cover is found on the bottom side of the BenQ MP620 projector. Place in on something soft to avoid scratching the projector before turning it over. Lift the projector up slightly to access the screw to the projector lamp cover.
  • Loosen the screw holding the lamp cover in place.

Step A:BenQ_MP620_projector_CS.5JJ1K_replacement_projector_lamp

  • Lift up the projector lamp cover.
  • Remove the lamp cords from the slots. Don’t lose the screw!
  • Disconnect the lamp connector by pushing it against the projector while pulling it up.

Step B:

  • Loosen the screw that secures the lamp.

Recycle your used lamps!  If you bought from an authentic manufacturer they will recycle the lamp for you at no extra cost (another reason to buy authentic lamps).
Insert the new BenQ CS.5JJ1K.001 projector lamp. Align the two holes on the lamp with the locators on the projector.
Step C:

  • BenQ_MP620_projector_CS.5JJ1K_replacement_projector_lamp
  • Tighten the screw that secures the lamp. Loose screw may cause a bad connection,
    which could result in malfunction. Do not over tighten the screw.
  • Connect the lamp connector to the projector.BenQ_MP620_projector_CS.5JJ1K_replace_projector_lamp_cover
  • Place the lamp cords back to the slots.
  • Replace the lamp cover on the BenQ MP620 projector.
  • Reset the lamp timer. (See below for instructions.)


Resetting the lamp timer

Do not reset the BenQ MP620 projector lamp timer if the lamp has not been replaced as this could cause damage. Don’t start the if the lamp cover has not been replaced.


  • Press and hold the Exit 5 button on the projector for 5 seconds to display the total used lamp time.
  • Press Auto on the projector or on the remote control to reset the lamp hour to “0”.
  • Wait about 5 seconds to let the OSD disappear.

Extend the life of the BenQ MP620 projector lamp:

  • Keep your air filters clean to avoid overheating the projector.
  • Setting Lamp Power to Whisper mode. Using Whisper mode reduces system noise and power consumption. It also extends the projector lamp life. To set Whisper mode, go into the Advanced Setup > Lamp > Lamp Power menu.
