The Sony KDS-R70XBR2 is a 70” (diagonally measured) high definition television using Sony’s highly acclaimed SXRD technology (which is Sony’s for the LCOS). The SXRD light engine provides a full native resolution of 1920 X 1080 at 1080p. The depth of the set is 20.3” and weighs somewhere around 155 pounds.

The Sony KDS-R70XBR2 has amazing black levels which succeed in producing the deepest blacks with excellent shadow details. The brightness levels of the set too are amazing. The set has extremely high contrast which can be measured upto 10000:1. A three line digital comb filter eliminates any visual disturbances. The set offers excellent wide viewing angles of 60 degrees vertical and 130 degrees horizontal. The side mounted speakers provide excellent sound quality and are removable. The stereo speakers offer dolby surround as well as surround sound effects.

The 3:2 pulldown menu is used for viewing videos and movies from any input device. The Sony KDS-R70XBR2 uses a user replaceable lamp which is said to have a life of about 10000 hours which should last you for about a couple of years depending on the daily usage after which it will have to be replaced. Sony has also packed in a spare lamp with this set. The set comes with a CableCard slot which makes it easier for the user to view cable TV without the need of buying additional set top boxes.
